The Redbrick Day Nursery

Quality Improvement

The Redbrick Day Nursery had a vision to grow into a nursery group. However, they hadn’t had good experiences in their Ofsted Inspections and the team lacked confidence in their own abilities to deliver their curriculum and to handle the next inspection. There was a succession plan to move the current manager into a senior operations role and therefore the whole team needed to step up into new roles.

We started working with the team on several levels.

  • Working with the Senior Manager and Director on the business model and monitoring the numbers to ensure the business was in a healthy position to grow
  • Working with the Manager on her leadership and management skills and how to lead both the team and take the lead during the imminent inspection
  • Working with the team on building their confidence in themselves when it came to inspection and delivering their curriculum

Our work involved one-to-one coaching, quality audit visits, training sessions delivered at the nursery and opportunities for the team to join our virtual training courses as well.  Each visit we created an Improvment Action Plan and the team were set targets to improve between our visits and then we would monitor their progress. When needed we would provide role-modelling for individual team members and we worked with them all to get them into a positive position for their inspection. We then undertook an Ofsted Experience Day to measure their readiness.

We were also available to them on the end of the phone and via email so when there were issues or incidents we were there to support and advise on the right course of action.  By working partnerhip with the whole team then we were able to prepare them effectively for their inspection, which achieved the Good outcome they needed.

The nursery also invested in our BØRN Operational Handbook, which is a complete manual of how to operate a nursery and a great tool to prepare for future growth.

Our work didn’t stop their though, as not only was it important to keep the momentum going for the team, with the potential opeing of a new nrusery then new opportunities were arising and more succesion planning needed.

The second nursery is due to open in the next few months and we are here ready to help build the new team in to an effective one.
