What you'll learn

Boys are naturally curious, energetic, and eager to explore the world around them. However, their unique ways of engaging and learning are not always fully understood or supported in Early Years settings. Their need for movement, hands-on experiences, and adventurous play can sometimes be seen as a challenge rather than an opportunity. This course is designed to help practitioners recognise, celebrate, and nurture boys’ natural instincts while ensuring they thrive in an inclusive, empowering environment where their energy, curiosity, and individuality are embraced.
By exploring key research and developmental theories, we will deepen our understanding of how boys learn best and how to create experiences that capture their interests and encourage meaningful engagement. We will consider how physical activity, risk-taking, and competition can be harnessed to develop resilience, confidence, and problem-solving skills, rather than being discouraged. Through reflection and practical strategies, this course will also explore how we can create environments that support boys without limiting their potential, ensuring they feel valued, included, and inspired to learn.

What you will learn

  • Recognise and celebrate the unique ways boys engage and learn
  • Understand theories and research on gender differences in Early Years Development and key characteristics
  • Identify strategies and activities to support boys development
  • Create an inclusive environment that empowers boys to thrive and not limit their spark
