More about Ellie Collar

Ellie Collar spent seven years teaching children aged between 3-19 in specialist schools for children with severe to profound and complex needs, including setting up a provision for children with Autism in the context of severe to profound learning difficulties. Ellie spent nine years working for her Local Authority as part of their advisory team for early years SEND, including as an area SENDCo for 40+ early years settings, and with the hospital Child Development assessment team.

Since 2012 Ellie has worked independently as a teacher and consultant for early development and SEND. She has an ongoing caseload of direct work with children from nursery to secondary age, with the majority being children with neurodiverse needs, where she carries out direct assessment for schools, nurseries and parents; advises on next steps, strategies and support for accessibility; and supports SENDCos in monitoring progress and in gathering evidence for referrals to outside agencies and EHCPs.  She also has worked regularly in schools and early years settings as a teacher SENDCo, delivering interventions and teaching programmes, and supporting staff practice with children with SEND.
